Windows 10 Anniversary Update

by PCM Microsoft Team

The next major update to Windows 10 –the Windows 10 Anniversary Update –started rolling out for customers around the world last August 2nd.

Looking add to their long list of innovations, Microsoft brings a host of improvements and new features to Windows 10 to help people be more productive and stay safer online. Below are the major areas of innovation and improvements that come with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update:

Security
As the most secure Windows to date, Windows 10 security features have received a huge boost in their capabilities. With more than 250 million threats online that cause data loss and increased risk of identity theft, there’s never been a better time to be secured by Windows 10.

For Personal Users
For Enterprise Customers
New Windows Hello features make it easy to use the same easy, yet strong, security of Windows Hello with Windows apps and Microsoft Edge
Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection to detect, investigate, and respond to advanced malicious attacks on networks
Windows Defender now includes the option to automatically schedule periodic scans of your PC, including a detailed report of the completed scan
New Windows Information Protection feature that separates personal and organizational data to help protect corporate data wherever it goes

Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge, the built-in next-generation browser in Windows 10, now features even more power-saving improvements that use fewer CPU cycles, consume less memory, and minimize the impact of background activity and peripheral content. According to recent tests, Microsoft Edge lasts three hours longer than Google Chrome –enough time to finish three consecutive movies.

In addition to building on strong power efficiency, Microsoft Edge will start supporting modern web standards like HTML5, CSS3, and ARIA. This means that page structure and content are now exposed more clearly with assistive technology.

Windows Ink
The anniversary update brings Windows Ink, which brings the power of Windows to the tip of your pen. This feature will significantly help graphic designers to become more creative, musicians to write digital music, and both employees and students to take notes.

Cortana
As part of Microsoft’s vision to make computing more personal, Cortana received a few enhancements to help users be more productive. Cortana has been relocated above your lock screen, enabling you to ask questions, set reminders, and other things easily without unlocking your device.

Office 365 + PSTN Conferencing

by PCM Microsoft Team

Office 365 E5 was designed to encompass the core value of the modern productivity and collaboration capabilities Office 365 provides. The E5 plan consists of new and improved features that could help organizations in three categories of investments:

  • Real-time Communications- Cloud PBX, PSTN Conferencing, Skype Meeting Broadcast and PSTN Calling as an add-on based on availability
  • Analytics - End User Analytics with Power BI and Organizational Analytics with Delve
  • Advanced Security - Office 365 Equivio Analytics for eDiscovery, Secure Attachments and Safe URLs with Advanced Threat Protection, and Access Control with Customer Lockbox

Office 365 E5, however, is still in a state of constant evolution. Microsoft is relentlessly looking for ways to simplify how customers can integrate Office 365 to their organization, especially large organizations.

Starting September 1, 2016, Microsoft will be selling a unified single SKU for Office 365 E5 that will include PSTN Conferencing. This offering is part of Microsoft’s efforts to simplify the ordering process of software licenses and add-ons, which currently requires customers to order multiple SKUs. Customers who purchased E5 without PSTN Conferencing for $33 USD before September 1, 2015 will not experience the pricing change until their next renewal.
