Case Study: Mac OS X Imaging System Unifies MAC and PC Users

Realizing that their existing Mac computer imaging processes lacked consistency, a large commercial bank contacted our Services Team to create a workflow-based imaging solution that would unify the end-user experience.

 

Customer Challenge

A full-service commercial bank with branches across the United States and in two foreign countries uses Mac OS X systems throughout their corporate offices for a variety of tasks. They wanted to standardize their offerings when giving their employees the choice of a Mac OS X system.

 

Prior to our involvement, the customer's Mac systems were provisioned individually and inconsistently. They needed a solution that would provide a standard experience to their Mac users with enough flexibility to scale to their growing demand for OS X systems. On top of that, the solution needed to meet their industry's stringent security policies.

 

Services Solution

Our Services Team created a workflow-based imaging solution that provides a standard operating system build and optional applications based on the business use. For greater flexibility, there are three image-selection processes available: automated, interactive, and manual. Workflow options include the various applications required for the different departments, security software, their management agent, and Active Directory binding.

 

Our Services Team also assessed the customer's previous environment, including looking for Mac OS X user pain points. We found internal websites that required ActiveX and SharePoint sites that had limited functionality in Mac OS X. These discoveries allowed us to plan solutions for these issues. Some of the sites were re-coded to be standards–compliant. Other issues were resolved with a combination of Citrix and Windows virtualization.

 

Throughout this process, we worked closely with the IT staff to ensure that they would be able to support the solution after the initial setup work was complete.

 

Business Results

This bank is now able to offer their employees the choice of Mac OS X or Windows and deliver a unified experience in both operating systems. Their employees can be more comfortable and productive thanks to this option. Better still, it allows the bank to attract the best talent because many job-seekers prefer Mac computers over PCs.
